Innovation does not occur in a vacuum. For many small and medium-sized enterprises, adopting new technologies, protecting their innovation or entering new markets requires more than a simple investment: it requires technical validation, regulatory alignment, a clear understanding of standards and, increasingly, knowledge of intellectual property tools such as patents. Within the Italian Chamber System, this interface between innovation, sustainability and business development is also addressed by Dintec.

DINTEC – Consorzio per l’Innovazione Tecnologica is an in-house agency of Unioncamere, the Chambers of Commerce and ENEA. Since 1994 it has been supporting businesses and public administrations in innovation, quality and digitalisation pathways. Its activities focus on key themes that support the growth of an innovative, competitive and sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem.

With the Industry 4.0 Plan, DINTEC has also taken on the national coordination of the PID – Punti Impresa Digitale (Digital Enterprise Points), designing services and programmes to support the digital transformation of enterprises. The company promotes the Twin Transition, supporting the integration between digital and ecological transformation. Alongside the areas it has traditionally covered, Dintec also enhances the skills of students, workers and professionals through training initiatives aimed at strengthening the sectors that symbolise Made in Italy.

DINTEC’s mission is to support the Chamber System, businesses and Public Administration in digital transition, technological innovation and sustainable development through qualified services, strategic projects and operational tools. The objective is to foster business competitiveness, market transparency and the valorisation of resources, contributing to the country’s economic and social growth.

Technical and sustainability standards, certification systems and intellectual property instruments are often perceived as formal obligations or specialist domains. In reality, they can represent strategic levers for market access, product reliability, innovation protection and international competitiveness. Dintec supports enterprises in navigating this landscape by providing expertise in conformity assessment, product standards, ESG sustainability, patents and innovation pathways aligned with European and international frameworks. At the same time, it helps companies adopt digital technologies in line with increasingly demanding requirements related to traceability, data management and security. Dintec contributes to ensuring that technological adoption and the valorisation of innovation are guided by ESG sustainability criteria and supported by compliance and traceability standards — conditions that are becoming increasingly central in global value chains.

For smaller enterprises, innovation often takes incremental forms: process improvements, digital upgrades, new materials, new technical solutions or organisational changes. Dintec’s approach reflects this reality. Rather than focusing exclusively on disruptive technological breakthroughs, it supports the gradual strengthening of technical, digital and intellectual property management capabilities within enterprises. Through the coordination of the PID network and technical guidance activities, Dintec contributes to spreading innovation and the digital and sustainable transformation across the broader productive fabric.

Dintec operates in close coordination with Unioncamere and the entire chamber network, ensuring that SMEs can access the technical, digital and intellectual property expertise they need through territorial structures, in line with environmental, social and governance sustainability principles. At the European level, where regulatory convergence, digitalisation and sustainability standards, and intellectual property rules shape industrial competitiveness, this technical mediation becomes increasingly important. By aligning innovation support with regulatory, sustainability, patent and digital awareness, Dintec helps strengthen the capacity of the Italian Chamber System to accompany enterprises through the twin digital and sustainable transition.

Rather than acting as a traditional consultancy, Dintec functions as a component of the Italian Chamber System and of the national innovation and digital infrastructure, supporting the conditions under which innovation and digital solutions become scalable, sustainable, compliant and market-ready. In a context where competitiveness depends as much on standards, certification, sustainability, patents and data governance as on invention itself, this bridging role is both strategic and structural.
