International cooperation plays an increasingly strategic role in strengthening economic systems, improving market transparency and supporting institutional capacity building. Within the Italian Chamber of Commerce system, BMTI brings its long-standing expertise in Italian market knowledge, agri-food supply chains and price transparency to international development initiatives. A significant example of this approach is its involvement in the Unioncamere cooperation project with the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation in El Salvador, which is currently being launched.

BMTI's contribution is rooted in its core mission: to improve the functioning, efficiency and transparency of markets, particularly in the agri-food sector. This expertise, developed in the Italian context through knowledge of wholesale markets, price monitoring systems and digital trading platforms, is increasingly relevant in international cooperation contexts aimed at strengthening local economies and institutions.

The project in El Salvador focuses on transferring technical and organisational know-how to support the development of more efficient, transparent and resilient agri-food markets, particularly when it comes to coffee and cocoa. BMTI's role focuses on sharing market governance methodologies, developing price information systems and organising the supply chain, helping local institutions and operators to improve market functioning and access to reliable information.

These interventions are not limited to technical solutions. They include capacity building, training and institutional dialogue, ensuring that tools and models are adapted to local economic structures, regulatory frameworks and social contexts. This approach reflects a broader vision of development cooperation, in which sustainability depends on local ownership and institutional strengthening.

A key objective of the project is to improve market access for small producers, who often face structural barriers related to information asymmetries, price volatility and limited bargaining power. By promoting transparent pricing mechanisms and more structured market relationships, the initiative aims to improve producers' ability to participate effectively in value chains.

In this sense, the project contributes not only to economic efficiency, but also to inclusion and resilience, in line with international priorities on sustainable development and food security.

BMTI's involvement in El Salvador is part of a broader model of international cooperation promoted by the Italian chamber system. It combines technical expertise, institutional cooperation and private sector engagement, leveraging Italian experience in market organisation to support development objectives abroad.

By linking national know-how with international partnerships, BMTI demonstrates how specialised public interest companies can play a significant role beyond national borders. In a global context characterised by market volatility and supply chain disruptions, such initiatives highlight the value of practical, knowledge-based cooperation focused on long-term impact.
